Everyone is a student in one way or the other – constantly learning and evolving. This theme explores and attempts to define an ideal version of a student who is no longer just bodies at desks; they are no longer mere vessels. Students have become compilations, amalgams, a concatenation of information. They are the people in front of us, but also their avatars in World of Warcraft and the profiles they create on Facebook. They speak with mouths, but also with fingers tapping briskly at the keys of their smart phones. When they want to reach out and make a difference, they use mediated communication. They have become more than just ears and eyes and brains to feed. Now, they feed us, and themselves, and each other, with an endless parade of texted and tweeted characters. With one foot in a physical world and the other in a virtual one, our hybrid classrooms are ecosystems, an evolving environment, where one must decide how to engage this new version of empowered students.
The first edition of MCRAW themed “Student 2.0: Safeguarding the Future,” aims to invite individuals who have ideas about engaging, nurturing and molding this emerging new breed of students for they are the insurance of the future.
