Dr. Bradley Freeman, Professor of Communication and Information Studies, American University Dubai

Dr. Freeman’s research interests run a wide gamut but tend to deal with how media portray things and what this ultimately means for our lives and societies. He has authored numerous publications and is currently working on an introductory textbook for mass media in the Gulf region, tentatively titled “Introduction to Mass Media: Globe & Gulf.”

He has been an invited guest speaker at many universities and research centers throughout Asia, and serves as editor of Cogent Open Access.

Dr David Tully is a senior lecturer in Media and Film Studies, Middlesex University Dubai.

Dr Tully previously taught at NYU, he also worked as Head of Research at music network VH1. He was the Head of Development for Oscar-winner Volker Engel at his production company Uncharted Territory.

His screenplay for ‘DJINN’, the first international Arab horror movie, was directed by horror legend Tobe Hooper, which broke box-office records in the Middle East. His next film, THE SANDMAN, will be directed by legendary Italian director Dario Argento, and star rock icon Iggy Pop.

Jonathan Gil Harris is Professor of English at Ashoka University, and has formerly held positions at George Washington University, Ithaca College, New York, and the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Professor Harris has authored six books and is currently working on a book project

called Masala Shakespeare, which offers a history of Shakespeare’s pervasive presence in India and Indian languages – from the Nautanki theatre of the north to the Kathakali dance form of Kerala, and from Indian literature in English to the Bollywood film industry.

Mohammed Almezel is the Managing Editor of Gulf News, the region’s leading English language newspaper. Having worked at different newspapers including the UAE’s Leading Arabic Al Khaleej, he joined Gulf News 18 years ago and has been at the helm of its newsroom for more than 13 years, overseeing the evolution of the newspaper to a multi-platform media house.

Parthajit Baruah is an award-winning Indian film critic and documentary filmmaker and a member of The International Federation of Film Critics – India. He authored the book Face To Face: The Cinema of Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

His documentaries deal with various socio-political and cultural issues of the state and have won various awards in national and international film festivals. At present, he is engaged with his new book on the legendary Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal.
